The City of Flagstaff boasts an aviation history with a legacy spanning three airports. The inaugural airport was located near the current Flagstaff High School football field. However its high elevation and proximity to the mountain peaks posed challenges to many aircraft during takeoff. Consequently, the airport found a new home in Doney Park, close to the modern Koch Field Road. This new facility was officially dedicated in 1928.
