Cranes and Other Structures

The airspace surrounding the airport is under federal jurisdiction, and certain construction (both permanent objects and temporary objects used during construction, like cranes) requires applicants to provide notice to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for aeronautical obstruction studies and comments per Title 14 CFR Part 77. All requests to utilize a crane or construct other structures must be submitted to the FAA for review at least 45 days prior to construction, and persons who fail to provide notice may be subject to fines of $1,000 per day. The Flagstaff Airport cannot authorize the use of cranes, and all requests must be submitted to the FAA for review.

Notice Criteria Tool

To see if a proposed structure or object requires analysis by the FAA, refer to the FAA’s Notice Criteria Tool: Notice Criteria Tool. The criterial for construction requiring notice to the FAA can also be found on FAA Form 7460-1.
