Drones/UAS

Know how and when to fly your drone around FLG

Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS), sometimes referred to as drones, are becoming a common sight in the skies of northern Arizona. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) manages the National Airspace System and regulates all aircraft, including UAS. All UAS operations requiring authorization must be approved by the FAA. Airports are not authorized to approve drone operations. In order to keep everyone safe please read and adhere to the rules established by the FAA.

Quick Do's and Don'ts:

DO'S:
DO register your drone as required by the FAA
DO read and understand all FAA UAS requirements
DO inform yourself on fire and airspace restrictions
DON’TS:
DON’T fly near manned aircraft
DON’T fly beyond line of sight of the operator
DON’T fly contrary to your aeromodelling community-based safety guidelines
DON’T fly in restricted areas

Please visit the FAA UAS Facility map website (UAS Facility Maps | Federal Aviation Administration) for more information about the requirements for UAS operations around FLG:

Per the FAA, UAS Facility Maps show the maximum altitudes around airports where the FAA may authorize part 107 UAS operations without additional safety analysis. The maps should be used to inform requests for part 107 airspace authorizations and waivers in controlled airspace.

NOTE: These maps DO NOT authorize operations in these areas at the depicted altitudes – they are for informational purposes ONLY. Operators must still apply to operate in controlled airspace (Including the Class D and E airspace around FLG) by completing a Part 107 Airspace Authorization request in LAANC or the FAADroneZone, or a Waiver Application in the FAADroneZone.

Individuals who request a part 107 airspace waiver and authorization are encouraged to consult the maps prior to submitting a request to determine locations and altitudes that can be approved quickly.
